How long have the Atlanta Hawks been an NBA team?
The origin of the Atlanta Hawks can be traced back to Buffalo Bisons in 1946. After its inaugural season, the Bisons moved to Illinois and became the Tri-City Blackhawks. As a part of the merger of the National Basketball League and American Basketball Association, the team joined what we now know as the NBA. When the team moved to Milwaukee in 1951, they changed their name to the Hawks. The Hawks eventually ended up in Atlanta in 1968 and have been become a beloved team of the city.
